Colleen Marie Heard, age 61, passed away on November 9, 2011 in Colorado Springs due to heart disease. She was born December 16, 1948 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, a daughter of the late Vincent C Canty and the late Viola E Mekley (Canty).
Colleen graduated from St. Scholastica Academy High School in 1966. She went on to complete 2 years junior college at El Paso Community College. She began her career in law enforcement as a dispatcher with the Colorado Springs Police Department. She then went on to become a police officer during the mid 1970's. She loved her law enforcement "family."
Colleen loved to do various, entertaining, odd jobs ranging from being a process server to a owning and operating a ceramics store with her husband Tom, whom she married on July 16, 1998 in Colorado Springs.
Colleen was an avid reader, and always had a good book at her side. Colleen had so many friends over the last few years who were so kind in putting up with her strong-minded opinions, and they were so supportive in whatever wild ideas she had. She had a couple of friends and co-workers at the ceramics store, Diane and Barry, who helped take such good care of her towards the end. For friends like that- we give thanks. They are amazing.
She is preceded in death by her parents Vincent Canty and Viola Canty and several aunts and uncles.
She is survived by her husband Tom, her sister Cindy (Canty) Johannes (Kevin), niece Kelsey Johannes, nephew Garrett Johannes. She is also survived by several cousins, Chuck Leese Jr. (Linda), Peggy Calhoun, Les (Leota) Russel (Sandy) & Ernest (Carol) Ziegler, all of whom will miss her dearly.
A visitation will be held at Swan-Law funeral home on Wednesday, November 16th from 6-8 pm. Services will be held at Swan-Law chapel on Thursday, November 17th at 2pm with internment to follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
We wish to thank all the doctors, nurses and other staff members at Memorial Hospital who took care of Colleen over the last years of her life. You are truly amazing individuals. Colleen was known by many people, and loved by most. We will miss seeing her, and we will always keep her in our thoughts. Remember - "I love you Colleen."
