Clayton (Lee) Cromwell, age 81, passed from this life into the next in Colorado Springs on January 16, 2012. Lee was born in Husted, Colorado on October 27, 1930 and spent the early years of his life working on his grandfather’s ranch near Monument.
He was proud of his service for his country, enlisting in 1947. After active duty in the Navy and Air Force, he settled in Colorado Springs. He married Arleta (Artie) Wurdinger on October 10, 1956. Lee continued his military service in the Air Force and Army Reserves, retiring in 1988 as Master Sergeant, United States Army.
Lee was a long-time employee of Transit Mix Concrete Company.
He enjoyed playing an active part in his children’s and grand-children’s lives by coaching football and bowling for many years as well as taking the family fishing and hunting.
Lee was very active in the bowling community for decades, holding several positions for the City of Colorado Springs and Colorado State Bowling Associations. He was recognized for meritorious service and inducted into both Associations Halls of Fame.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Artie and their wonderful family including four sons; Rick, Steve, Marv and Bret; a daughter, Sandy; twenty-one grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Luther and sister, Joyce.
A memorial service will be held at 3pm on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at Memorial Gardens, 3825 Airport Road, Colorado Springs, with military honors. Reception will follow; also at Memorial Gardens.
