April 24, 1920 – May, 29, 2018
Charles (Chuck) Vogel 98, passed away peacefully at Brookdale Bear Creek Assisted Living Center in Colorado Springs, CO on May 29, 2018.
Charles was born on April 24, 1920 in Boston, MA to Louis and Sarah Vogel. Charles joined the Navy when he was 19, which happened to be the day after Pearl Harbor was attacked. After the war was over, he met a beautiful red head and the love of his life, Muriel Turner. They resided in New Jersey and had one daughter Joyce Dugan. After about 40 years of marriage, he suffered the loss of his wife Muriel.
Charles had a zest for life and loved being around people. He drove a bus for the New Jersey Transit Company from New Jersey to New York through the Lincoln and Holland tunnels for 38 years and loved his job. On top of driving the bus, Charles spent most of his life helping people. He spent thousands of hours brining smiles and laughter to patients at a New Jersey Hospital, in Military organizations, The VFW and The Boy Scout’s. He would spend his 70’sand 80’s collecting and bundling old new papers together for fund raising for The Boy Scouts. After he relocated to Colorado Springs, Co in 2008 he discovered his real love was working for the Marian House Soup Kitchen with the guys in the kitchen serving others.
He loved God, family and country and there wasn’t a person that he met that he didn’t enjoy and love to joke and tell stories with. If you knew Charles, you know just how knowledgeable and intelligent he was. He had a sharp mind and loved to read and follow his team the “Red Sox” and did so up until the day he passed.
Charles is preceded in death by his wife Muriel, his daughter Joyce, his brothers Louis and William, sisters Ruth and Pauline, and his nephew Louis Vogel III. He is survived by his nieces, Patricia Parker (Richard), Jeannette Giffin (Larry), Pauline Price (Floyd) and nephew Paul Vogel (Delores) and many more nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and his “Unofficial” adopted daughter that he loved like his own Anita Waugh.
