Beverly Ann Wells

Beverly Ann Wells, age 78, passed away peacefully at her home Oct. 11, 2023, after bravely battling MSA-P (Multiple System Atrophy, Type P) a rare and aggressive form of Parkinson’s Disease. She leaves behind her husband Charles (Chick), son Daniel, and daughter Marcia.

Born on May 29, 1945 in Painesville, Ohio, Bev was the middle child of three brothers and one sister. She married Chick on March 26, 1966. She attended Lake Erie College and lived in Ohio another 14 years before moving to Colorado Springs in 1980.

While raising her family in Colorado, she worked full-time as a secretary/receptionist at Command Sciences Corporation, where, with the help of workmates, taught herself computer programming. A few years later, she went to work as a computer programmer for the Colorado Springs Police department and helped in the development of the 911 emergency call system. She had great patience and sharp analytical skills and workmates described her as the “go-to” person who could find the most stubborn programming bugs.

In 1998, she and her husband started FunTreks, Inc., a publishing company specializing in guidebooks for four-wheel-drive recreation. They bought a motorhome and traveled the west. She ran the company by phone communicating with the home office while Chick explored and documented the backroads. In those early years, Bev was the absolute backbone of the company, which is still in business today.

In 2004, the couple made Monument, Colorado their permanent home. The next year, Bev co-founded the Monument chapter of the Red Hat Society. As the chapter grew, she established many lasting friendships. Bev served as Queen Mum until 2022, when she was no longer able to attend meetings. Her friends provided unwavering support during her final months, visiting her bedside as she battled her illness.

Bev is survived by husband Charles A. Wells, son Daniel Wells, daughter Marcia LeVault, daughter-in-law Karena Wells, son-in-law Bill LeVault, grandchildren Sydney Kulaga, Robyn Wells, Tustin LeVault, Kyle LeVault, brothers Alan Landgraf and Richard Landgraf, and sister Lynda Cross, along with sister-in-law Karen Bowersox. She is predeceased by her parents, Art and Lois Landgraf and her younger brother Thomas Landgraf.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers from Compassus Hospice and Amada Senior Care.

A memorial mass will be held at St. Peter Catholic Church at 10:00 AM on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2023, followed by a reception at the Parish Ministry Center. The church is located at 55 Jefferson Street, Monument, CO, 80132.
