Bart passed away peacefully at his home on June 21, 2012 at the age of 79. Born to William Howard Boyd and Alvira (Vi) Boyd-Herath on November 14, 1932, they moved from Mott, North Dakota when his father was diagnosed with Tuberculosis and sent to the Colorado Springs Woodman Sanatorium in 1941. He is preceded in death by his wife Kay Burke-Boyd, his father and mother.
Bart graduated from Colorado Springs High School (Palmer) in 1950. He grew up in the First Methodist Church where he played basketball. He loved baseball and played on the Gazette team as a teanager. He joined the United States Air Force and was stationed at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines under President Dwight David Eisenhower when America was helping France fight for French Indo-China, now called Viet Nam. After he came home he went to work as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement. Bart was Past Commander in the American Legion, Post 5, and the 40 & 8, where he and Kay held offices and enjoyed the conventions and camaraderie. He was a patriot who liked to hang our American flag on his big flagpole. He was also a member of the Elks Club for years.
Bart is survived by his sister, Bonita (Bonnie) Kay Foster and her children, Brad and Doreen Foster, Betsy Johnston and Branon and Allison Foster. He is also survived by his great nephews and nieces, Tyler, Kyle, Cord, his daughter Shelby, and Megan Foster, Jessie and Carly Johnston, Zebulon, Deegan and Quaid Foster. Also survived by Bill F. Burke and family Crawfordsville, Indiana.
Visitation, 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 27, Mountain View Mortuary, 2350 Montebello Square Drive. The funeral is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 28 at Mountain View Mortuary Chapel. Burial Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 3825 Airport Road.
