He was born in Mitchell County on December 27, 1928 to W.H. and Kate Stewart Narrell.
Don was a life-long resident of the area, he graduated from the Loraine High School in 1946, then went on to further his education at Texas Christian University, where he earned his Bachelor Degree. While at TCU Don played football, where he was a Co-Captain of the football team for the last 2 years on the team, he also won the Dan D Rogers Award. After graduating from TCU Don went on to play professional football in Alberta Canada for one year before deciding to join the Air Force, where he again played football before attending and graduating officer’s school. After his short stint in the Air Force Don came back to Mitchell County where he found a life-long career in the oilfield making it to the level of management for Halliburton. Don loved the outdoors, especially hunting, but his biggest passion in life was his family, whom he loved with all his heart. Don was a member of the Scottish Rites Society of Lubbock and belonged to the Masonic Lodge of Loraine.
Don is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dolores, by his daughter Dianne Narrell both of Colorado City, and by his sister Claira Taylor and her husband Homer of Sweetwater. Also surviving is a brother-in-law Douglas Smith of Mexico. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his sister Faye Smith.
A funeral service for Don will be held on Thursday, April 7th at 10am in the chapel at the Kiker-Seale Funeral Home with the Rev. Herb Roever, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Loraine officiating, burial will follow at the Colorado City Cemetery.
A visitation for Don will be held on Wednesday, April 6th from 6-8 at the Kiker-Seale Funeral Home.
