Joan M. Gorman, 90, passed away from advanced Alzheimer’s and natural causes, Sunday night, November 7th, 2021. She passed peacefully in her sleep while with her son in his home, under the care of hospice and family.
Joan, affectionately known to her husband Mike as “Reds” (for her vibrant red hair and Irish spunk), was born April 24, 1931, in Philadelphia, PA. She was the daughter of William and Mary Forst.
Raised in Philadelphia, Joan worked as an executive secretary for many companies, including US Steel and Conrail, where her advanced short-hand skills became noticed and sought after.
Joan was a loving wife to Morton “Mike” Gorman (deceased 2010), mother to Rochelle Baker, and adoptive mother to Shane Baker. Joan was grandmother “Mom Mom” to Rochelle’s sons Ryan and Shaun Baker, as well as Shane’s daughters Nia and Tessa Baker.
Joan’s greatest joy came from being around her husband Mike and son Shane – the dynamic duo whom she adored. From their trips to Atlantic City and Florida, attending Shane’s never-ending series of tennis, karate and other sporting events, to their boisterous presence as part of their Bakers Bay condominium community – Joan was the quiet, yet bright light always leading them home.
Joan’s admiration for her family was only equaled by her love of a good Nifty Fifty’s milkshake (black and white, of course), walks in the mall with Mike, enjoying a funny Peanuts comic strip, and winning multiple mother-son dance competitions.
Friends will be received Monday, November 15, 2021 from 5-7 pm at the Blake-Doyle Funeral Home, 226 West Collings Avenue, Collingswood, NJ 08108.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org).
