As a young man, he loved the Boy Scouts, where he both worked hard as a camp counselor in Arkansas and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He also served in the United States Marine Corp. He was proud to have served as a member of the Honor Guard in Washington, D.C., and served in Vietnam.
Bill worked in automobile finance and later for the Tennessee Secretary of State in the UCC Division. In his retirement, Bill enjoyed watching his grandchildren in their many activities and grow into fine young people.
Bill is predeceased by his parents; his brother, Chris Bond; nephew, David Bond; and stepson, Monte Sernel. Bill is survived by his wife, Lucy Bond; his sister, Bonnie Bond Cagle of Jackson, TN and nephew, Warren Bond of Chapel Hill, TN. He also leaves his children: Buck Bond (Tracy) of Pickwick Dam, TN; Kelly Fox (Michael) of New Albany, MS; and John Bond (Molly) of Pickwick Dam, TN. He is survived by his stepson, Toby Sernel (Jessica) of Conway, AR; and daughter-in-law, Kerry Sernel-Lawson (Ciaran) of Memphis, TN. Bill leaves twelve grandchildren: Buck Bond, Bailey Bond, Drake Fox, Reagan Davis (Mitchell), Abby Fox, Madison Cox (Ben), Landon Bond, Emma Bond, Lily Sernel, Ragan Sernel, Kenner Sernel, and Ciara Sernel.
The family will receive friends for a time of visitation at Sanctuary on the Square in Collierville on Saturday, September 30, 2023 from 10-11 am with a funeral service to start at 11:00 am. Burial will be at West TN Veterans Cemetery on Thursday, October 5, 2023 at 11:00 am.
