Mary Maxine Cartwright

MARY MAXINE CARTWRIGHT, 83, died September 5, 2015 in Collierville, TN. Born in Wolco, OK on July 21, 1932. She was preceded in death by her parents, Grace and Ray Cowlishaw, and her brothers, Darrel and Willard. A graduate of Oklahoma A & M Intensive Business College, she worked to assist her husband, Gene, to get his college degree. Thereafter, she was a stay-at-home homemaker, successfully raising three children and being active in numerous civic, charitable and church activities including PTA, WMU, PEO, Medley Club and missions to children, nursing home and senior adults. Upon Gene’s early retirement, they became active Ball Room dancers and enjoyed many days boating and fishing on Greers Ferry Lake in Arkansas where they lived for 12 years. She and Gene were married 62 years, having known each other since the second grade and were Salutatorian and Valedictorian, respectively, of their high school class in Skiatook, OK. Maxine is also survived by her three children, Rhonda Newport (Al), Steve Cartwright (Wendy), Terri Boyd (Mark); seven grandchildren, Justin Cartwright (Whitney), Patrick Newport (Melanie), Casey Newport, Watson Boyd, Logan Boyd, Mary Cullen Boyd, Jimmy Ontiveros; one great-granddaughter, Ava Newport, one great-grandson, Henry Newport; two brothers, Willis Cowlishaw (Patricia) and Milton Cowlishaw; one sister in law, Camille Cowlishaw, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 8 at Collierville Methodist Church on the Square. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. preceding the service, also at the church. Memorials may be made to the Page Robbins Adult Day Care Center, 1961 S. Houston Levee Rd., Collierville, TN 38017.
