Jamie Eileen Watkins, 47, has passed to her Heavenly Home. She was a beloved daughter, mother and grandmother who passed away on June 14, 2023 at Baptist Hospital East after a short courageous battle with liver cancer. Jamie grew up in East Memphis in the late seventies and eighties. She attended Evangelical Christian School and graduated from Shelby State Community College with an associate degree, as a Physical Therapy Assistant. From an early age Jamie had a passion for helping people, especially seniors. She worked as a PTA at nursing homes in the Memphis area. Her job at time of illness was Director of Physical Therapy, The Waters of Memphis Rehab and Nursing Home.
Jamie is survived by her parents, Jim and Jean Burch of Collierville; two daughters Elizabeth Marie Leathers and Christina Eileen Leathers of Collierville, and three grandchildren: Jackson, Adeline and June. She also leaves uncles, aunts and cousins in the Memphis area and several outside this area.
Jamie never met a stranger and loved all people she met and they loved her. She had an infectious laugh that if you heard, you would never forget. She laughed frequently and most always had a happy demeanor.
Throughout her life she was known for her tenacity for hard work, kindness toward everyone, her generosity and concern for others, and the unwavering commitment to her family and friends. She was fiercely independent and gave 100 percent to every job. Jamie lived a life of integrity and trustworthiness. She loved the Lord and at every opportunity shared her faith with others she met in life. Jamie will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.
The family will receive friends on Saturday June 24, 2023 at Collierville Funeral Home, 3863 Bailey Station Road, Collierville beginning at 1 p.m. with a memorial service beginning at 2 p.m.
Reverend Eddie Bromley and Jamie’s cousin Emily Burch Alkema will officiate the memorial service. Memorial contributions may be made to First Methodist Church Collierville.
