Visitation will be at 2 pm on Saturday, July 8th, at Capleville United Methodist Church, followed by a memorial service at 3 pm.
Jim was born in New Castle, IN, to Jack Price Overman and Marjorie Sullivan Overman on June 12, 1941. He graduated from Carthage High School, obtained his Bachelor’s degree from Purdue University, his Master’s degree from Rutgers, and his Ph.D. from the University of Florida. On August 7, 1965, in Hanover, IN, he married Mary Ann Newhouse. Jim worked as an entomologist, conducting agricultural research in Uganda and Brazil, and later continued his research for DeKalb Seed Company in Union City, TN, for 28 years. He was a member of Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church, and later Capleville United Methodist Church. Jim was also involved in the Union City Rotary Club. Following his retirement, he expanded his love for growing plants, including blackberries, muscadines, and vegetables. His greatest pleasure was his four grandchildren.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Van Frank Overman. He is survived by his wife Mary Ann; his daughters, Sarah Overman Freed (Brian) and Emma Overman; his brother, John Kirby Overman; and his four grandchildren, Katherine Freed, Eleanor Freed, James Freed, and Annabel Krisch.
