Connie was preceded in death by her parents Melvin and Marguerite Wright. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Robert Ammons. The couple married in Many, Louisiana in 1966. Connie is also survived by two sons, Monte Ammons, (Benicia) and Max Ammons (Katie); Grandchildren Adam, Caroline, Abigail, Mary Claire & Beau; Brother Tommy Wright (Connie); nieces and nephews Karen, Spencer, Catherine, Ellie, Paul, Davey.
Connie Graduated from Many High School 1965 – Valedictorian, Attended Northwestern State University where she was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority – Graduated Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor degree in Education. She also earned a Masters degree in Education+30.
Connie Taught elementary for nine years – 1 year in Leesville, 8 years in Many.
She ran the Sabine Parish Program for Talented and Gifted Children for 3 years (1977-1980). She left education to work with Robert at their family business (Many Marine Center) for 5 years. Connie returned to education as Principal of Many Jr. High from 1987-1988 and became Principal of Many Elementary in 1989 where she served 21 years until retiring in 2010. During her tenure as Principal, Many Elementary saw consistent improvement in test scores and school performance measures. In recognition of the exceptional performance under her leadership, Connie was recognized as 2011 Outstanding Principal for the State of Louisiana.
Connie was a Member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Following her retirement; she periodically addressed symposiums and seminars across the state providing guidance on building excellence in education administration.
In 2015, Connie and Robert moved from Many, La. to Collierville, TN to be closer to grandchildren.
Family graveside service will be held at 1pm on Friday June 8 at Magnolia Cemetery in Collierville, TN followed by a memorial service at Heritage at Forest Hill Irene in Collierville.
The family is planning a service in Many, LA this summer to celebrate the life of Connie with family and friends. More details to come.
The family has established a memorial fund with St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. They ask in lieu of flowers that donations be made to St. Jude’s.
