Charles Maxwell Greene of Cordova, Tennessee loved his family and above all else, loved Jesus. On Sunday, June 19, 2022, he passed peacefully from this world into the arms of His Heavenly Father and was reunited with the love of his life, Dorothy Ann “Dottie” Greene, almost exactly 42 years from the day he met her.
Born on August 2, 1926, to the late Andrew Roy Greene and Jessie Lee Nolen Greene in Nashville, Tennessee, Charlie was one of six children.
Along with his wife, Dottie, and his parents, he was welcomed into heaven by his brothers, Andrew Roy Greene, Glenn O’Brien Greene, Robert Nolen Greene and Joseph C. Greene; his sons, Charles Maxwell Greene, Jr. (Diane), Charles Gus Glasscock, IV (Colleen); and his beloved grandson, Brandon O’Brien Greene.
Charlie is survived by his sister, Dorothy Greene Parrish of Franklin, TN and his children, Kathy Weyandt (Brad) of Friendswood, TX, Marsha Klimetz (David) of Rossville, TN, Glenn Greene of Cordova, TN, Liz Moore (Tim) of Helena, MT, Kathy Wright (Danny) of Charlotte, NC, and John David Glasscock (Delene) of Columbus, TX as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews whom he found great joy in keeping up with their many accomplishments and achievements.
In 1944, Charlie dutifully reported for his call to military service. A US Army Veteran- Private First Class, 395th Infantry, 99th Division, Charlie was wounded in Combat in Germany on March 4, 1945. He received an Honorable Discharge on October 22, 1945, with decorations including a Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal and a Bronze Star.
After obtaining his Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from Bowling Green Business University, Charlie was set on a track that would lead him to become a successful business leader, partner and mentor to many throughout his life. He spent his career in the transportation and healthcare industry, which eventually led him to move to Florida with the company his brother, Joseph Greene, founded. On the night before Father’s Day in 1980, he was introduced to a godly young woman who would soon become the love of his life, his wife, partner, friend and confidant, Dorothy Ann Glasscock. With Dottie by his side, Charlie served the Lord faithfully for over 40 years, ministering to countless numbers of people the promise of God’s love and eternal life. Living out the commission to be the hands and feet of Jesus, Charlie was in ministry everywhere he went, whether it be playing golf, traveling, or sharing a cup of coffee. He was a trusted advisor, wise teacher and faithful prayer warrior who cultivated deep and meaningful friendships all over the world. He began and ended each day studying God’s Word and with prayers for each of his loved ones. He usually left your presence by claiming for you the promise given in Numbers 6, “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face upon you and give you peace.”
In his last email to his children just a few weeks ago, Charlie wrote these words about his upcoming move out of his beloved home, ”After much prayer and consideration, it seemed right to leave this cherished homeplace of Dottie and me…but the amazing love story goes on that God started among all of us.”
Charlie lived his life in such a way that at the end of his day, when he laid his head down to rest, he could say with all peace and assurance, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” In the early hours of the morning, on Father’s Day, June 19, 2022, he was received into the Father’s arms and upon his head ‘was laid the crown of righteousness’ (2 Tim. 4:7,8). His family rejoices in the peace that passes all understanding, trusting that the Lord proclaimed, “Well done, my good and faithful servant”.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2022, at Highpoint Church located at 1035 E. Winchester Blvd in Collierville, Tennessee, with visitation at 9:30 am and service at 11:00 a.m. Graveside burial with military honors will follow at Memorial Park South Woods, 5485 Hacks Cross Road, Memphis, TN 38125.
