Valerie LaVerne Hill Snapp, "Nanny", died at age 60 of lung cancer, on Monday, September 15, 2014 at 12:45pm in the comfort of her home surrounded by her four children. She was born in San Angelo, Texas on December 10th, 1953. Shortly after, the family moved to Abilene, Texas where she developed her love for piano and dance. In 1969, her family moved to Irving, Texas. She attended MacArthur High School where she met her future husband of 36 years, Robert Snapp. Here she found her love for reading and writing, and collecting the works of Kahlil Gibran, especially. Valerie was employed at Braniff Airlines and became passionate about the industry. She then transferred that love over to American Airlines where she worked for 24 years. She and Robert raised their four children in Tucson, Arizona for twenty years until moving back to Texas to be close to family. She will be remembered for being an amazing grandmother. She lived for her kids and grandkids. She will also be remembered for her infectious laugh and wearing visors even on a rainy day. Her words of wisdom included "a potato is a vegetable" and "you can even find nutrition in a donut." She is preceded in death by her father, B. G. Hill. She is survived by her mother, Frances Hill; her best friend, Robert Snapp; her four children and their spouses: Sadie and Scott Strickland, Mollie Snapp, Maggie and Russell Bowers, Cody and Veronica Snapp, and her ten grandchildren: Anna, Emilie, Blake, Brett, Caleb, Abigail, Caden, Layla, Joshua, and Lennon. She is also survived by her siblings: Carolyn Gregory, Jenny Petree, and Evan Hill. She will always be loved and remembered by family and friends. The family is having a private event in her honor.
