He will always be remembered as a loving father, husband, brother, uncle, and friend to all that knew and loved him. He was born on November 15, 1954, in Fort Worth, Texas to Acie and Dorothy Nichols.
John grew up in the Fort Worth area, went to Richland High School, and married Candy in 1974, at the age of 19. He then joined the United States Air Force, where he spent his time serving in beautiful places, like King Salmon, Alaska, and Savannah, Georgia. He and Candy left the Air Force in 1978 and returned to Fort Worth with the intention of settling in and growing a family.
Shortly after his return, John stepped into the workforce and began a career in carpentry. He was a skilled craftsman and expert woodworker. His talent was admired by many, and his willingness to train others in the trade will always be remembered. From home remodels and room additions to storefronts and lakeside decks, he was an extremely gifted carpenter.
By 1985, John and Candy had 6 children, and the Nichols family line and legacy would expand from there. It wasn’t long before he found the Lord’s true calling on his life, and that was being a grandfather to so many.
John is survived by his wife, Candice Nichols; son, Geoffrey Nichols, and his wife, Rachel; daughter, Lisa Ismert, and her husband, Izzy; son, Joseph Nichols, and his wife, Karen; son, Joshua Nichols, and his wife, Amelia; daughter, Sarah Ballmer, and her husband, Benjamin; son, David Nichols, and his wife, Kasey. Johnny will always be “Poppa” to 16 grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Janet Greene, and her husband, Mike; sister, Barbara Palecek, and her husband, Frank; and sister, Paulette Gunter. He is “Uncle Johnny” to many nieces and nephews, as well.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Acie and Dorothy Nichols.
Johnny loved Jesus with all his heart, and his greatest achievement was seeing his children and grandchildren have the same passion for Christ. He loved people and lived life to the fullest. Time with family is what he treasured most… movies with his wife, fishing and golfing with his sons, early morning coffee with his daughters, swimming, and popcorn with his grandkids.
Because of the life that Johnny lived, a "Celebration of Life” will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 27, 2021, at Life.Church which is located at 1075 Keller Pkwy, Keller, TX, 76248.
