Lieutenant Colonel Jayson T. Potts was a U.S. Air Force Officer and Master Navigator with twenty-seven years of service. He was the 136th Operations Support Squadron Commander and the Civil Service Air Operations Officer with the 136th Airlift Wing, Texas Air National Guard.
Colonel Potts grew up in San Antonio, Texas and received his commission in the U.S. Air Force upon graduating from Texas State University, San Marcos, in 1994. He completed Joint Specialized Undergraduate Navigator Training, and was assigned to Dyess AFB, Texas, as a Navigator in 1996. During his career in the Texas Air National Guard Colonel Potts commanded the 386th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron, Ali Al Salem AB, Kuwait, and oversaw five hurricane evacuations. Colonel Potts deployed in support of various contingencies including OPERATIONS Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom, and Inherent Resolve. Colonel Potts was a Master Combat Systems Officer. Jayson received his Executive MBA from Texas Christian University, Fort Worth, in 2022.
While stationed in Dyess, Jayson met the love of his life, Mary McWright; they married October 30, 2004. Mary and Jayson adored each other. They enjoyed many years of love, laughter and friendship creating twenty years of beautiful memories. Jayson and Mary have two precious sons: Bryson and Braxton. Jayson loved his boys fiercely.
Jayson’s heart was bigger than Texas. His infectious smile lit-up a room. His spirit emitted joy. He loved making people laugh; his laugh was one of a kind. It only took one encounter, with Jayson, to feel like you were his best friend. He immensely loved his friends and family.
Jayson was passionate for his community. Through many years of coaching his son’s basketball teams, Jayson served as a mentor to many. Whether it was teaching the fundamentals of basketball, providing for youth in need or simply teaching life lessons, Jayson was a gift to all families.
Jayson’s presence changed lives; he left this world a better place.
Jayson is survived by his wife; sons; siblings: Rudy, Paula, Kevin (Yolanda), Gina, Christal (David), and Tandra (Ken); Father and Mother-In-Law: Timothy & Renate; brothers and sister-in-law: Timothy, Samuel (Amanda), and Nicolette (William); and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Jayson is preceded in death by his loving parents, Jasper and Gwendolyn.
A visitation for Jayson will be held Sunday, July 24, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home, 5725 COLLEYVILLE BLVD, COLLEYVILLE, TX 76034. A funeral service will occur Monday, July 25, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship, 1808 W Camp Wisdom Rd, Dallas, TX 75232.
