When she entered the work force, Helen took charge and ultimately, in a man’s world, became the Supply Manager for American Airlines maintaining a parts inventory to keep propeller planes flying. Helen worked 37 years for American and retired from American, coincidentally, 37 years ago. Strong, disciplined, organized, determined, talented musician and more. Nana was most proud of her large family and many friends.
Nana was born 12/2/1921 in Ft. Worth, Texas to Lallie and F. E. Pope and was preceded in death by her parents, sister Hazel and brothers Eugene, Owen and L. O.
Nana was adopted into the English family when she partnered 60 years ago with Mildred “Mamaw” English Thomas, who preceded her in death as did brothers Calvin, Harold, Jesse, Ken, Virgil and sisters Rosy and Emma. Nana looks forward to again joining her adopted family in heaven and dancing on the streets of gold with them.
Nana was preceded in death by her daughter, Jan Hupfauer but is survived by Jan’s husband Neil Hupfauer, granddaughter Amy and husband Bill Lively, great grandsons Will and Tanner Lively, great granddaughters Lauren and Ellie Lyons; their father Bill Lyons and wife Panarai; Amy’s father, Al Canales and wife Teresa, great grandson William and great granddaughter Beth; granddaughter Charla Brown and great grandsons Parker and Connor, granddaughter Ginger and husband Rob Forst, great granddaughter Molly and great grandson Adam.
Nana is further survived by Laura and Wilson Fletcher, Christine and Darek Fletcher, great grandsons Grant and Gavin Fletcher; Raelene and Scott Fletcher and great granddaughter Sydney; Carol, Judy and Monty Harper, granddaughters Lisa and Lori; daughter Betty Thomas, grandson Matthew Thomas and wife Sondra, great grandson Nathan, granddaughter Lisa and husband Landon Middleton, great grandson Callen.
Nana says to her many relatives and friends, especially Dani and Rae, “don’t cry, SING, for I will be listening and when the Lord calls each one of you home, I will be waiting at the Golden Gate to give each of you a big hug”
