Grace was born in Amarillo Texas on September 20, 1931 to the late Ernest and Narnie English. Along with her parents, others have preceded her in death. Her welcome committee includes her siblings, Anita, Virginia, Wayne and Tommy; her husband, Edward Dean Corbin; her children, Kimberly Corbin and Jeffrey Corbin; and her granddaughter, Zana Danielle LeBlanc. She will continue to watch over all she leaves behind which include her son Ed Corbin and his wife Kim of Mansfield; her grandchildren, David Corbin and wife Kimberly of St. Louis, MO; Britton Smith and husband Harry of Mansfield, Mark LeBlanc of Nashville, TN; Anna Marie Reeves and her husband Don of Mansfield; Carolyn Hamm and her husband Chris of Keller; and Grace Ann Corbin of Mansfield; 16 great grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She spoke of her beloved family proudly and often in triumphant hopes to keep their legacy alive.
Grace married Edward Dean Corbin in Lawton, Oklahoma on January 16, 1953. When choosing a career, she fell upon her talent for writing. While raising a family, she attended school and soon received her first job as a proofreader. She had a love for journalism and was able to make a proud living for her family. Ed’s transfer to Lafayette, Louisiana opened her heart to teaching, just as her mother had done for so many years. Her new found good will started at church where she first taught kindergarten. This led to her enrollment to the Texas Woman’s University where she accomplished her degree in Elementary Education. She began molding minds with her wisdom, grace, and love for the HEB school system and then at St. Alban's Episcopal Private School up until her retirement. Her gift included staying in close contact with her students for many years to follow.
Being a woman of many talents, she opened The Beach Connection where she combined her love for the beach and art. Several homes and businesses contracted her skills to create beautiful works of coastal art using her discovered treasures which she found on the island beaches. Grace’s creativity did not stop there. She was involved with the American Cancer Society and participated in a very profitable organization called Dining By Design. Elegantly designed table-scapes were created and lifelong friendships were made in the process.
Her hobbies involved traveling the orient with her husband, entertaining guests from all over the world on a moment's notice and spending time in her garden. All that drove by the house on the corner of Garrett Road would speak of its beauty. As a guest in her home, you would never be without a home cooked meal, a trip to the border, a crisp tan from the island, a slice of Kahlua cake, a moonlit chat on her screened-in porch, and the warmest sense of hospitality a guest will ever know.
We will celebrate her life on Wednesday, October 19th at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home. The viewing and arrival greeting will begin at 12:00pm-12:30pm followed by her funeral service and burial.
As the matriarch of our family, we look forward to celebrating her life and connecting with all that knew and loved her dearly. She is and always will be our Amazing Grace.
