David Earl Gilmore

He will always be remembered as a hero, patriarch of our family, and loyal friend to all those who knew and loved him. He was born on September 30, 1926 in Manatee Florida to Oscar and Frances Gilmore. David was a Marine Corps Veteran, and he served in WWII, and the Korean War flying helicopter rescue and casualty missions. He received many metals including a silver star with a combat v. The Silver Star is the third-highest military combat decoration that can be awarded to a member of the United States Armed Forces. It is awarded for gallantry in action. Mister Gilmore has worked with aircraft since 1944, and moved on to helicopters in 1950. He attended many trade schools including special training on Sikorsky aircraft. After the service he worked as a lineman, and then went on to become an engineer for Bell Helicopter Textron. During his career with Bell he traveled to Europe as a Bell Representative for the Army.

On June 1, 1947 he was married to the love of his life Camilla Chisholm. They were married 55 years. Together they had one daughter named Denise Kay, and raised their nephew John Chambers. Later he received his bachelors degree in Business, and went on to retire from Bell Helicopter after 37 years of dedicated service. In his retirement he enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing, knife making, and spending time with his family and friends.

David is survived by his daughter Denise Grimland of Hurst, Texas;Granddaughters Melissa Pierce, and husband Michael of Keller, Texas; Kalli Hooper and Michael Halstead of Bedford Texas; Grandson Brad Grimland of Bedford, Texas; Great Grandsons Presley Pendergrass of Keller, Texas; and Mason Pierce of Bonham, Texas; Great granddaughter Saryn Pierce of Bonham, Texas; and cousins Mildred Canning of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Warine of St. Cloud, Florida. He is preceded in death by his parents Oscar and Frances Gilmore, nephew John Chambers, brother John Lincie Gilmore, wife Camilla Gilmore, and special friend Dorothy Hickman.

The memorial service will be held at 3pm on Sunday, January 14th, at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park. Internment will be held privately at the National Cemetery in Grand Prairie at a later date.
