sustained in combat during his service in the Vietnam War.
Brian was born in Oneida, New York, on June 8, 1942, to Aaron and Berniece McCormick, 5 hours
behind his twin sister Beth, a surprise to all. Brian, the first boy of what would eventually be 5 in a
family of 9 children, loved to tell stories of a childhood rich with music, adventure, and
rabble-rousing.
After graduating from Norwich High School in Norwich, New York, Brian attended Powelson
Business School in Syracuse to study Accounting. In 1966, Brian was drafted into the Army to
serve in the conflict in Vietnam. He completed basic training at Fort Riley, Kansas, where he learned
he would serve with the newly reinstated “Old Reliables” in the 9th Infantry Division. Bravo
Company, 5th Battalion, performed search and destroy missions in Binh Phuoc. Upon his return to
the U.S., he was deployed from Fort Meade to patrol during the riots in Washington, D.C.
On October 5, 1973, Brian married Joan Doyle in Reston, Virginia. Their daughter, Jennifer, was
born on February 20, 1975, and their son, Michael, was born on September 19, 1979. Brian worked
in finance in the telecom industry and retired as Assistant Vice President of Regulatory Affairs in
property repositioning for Verizon in 2001.
In retirement, Brian enjoyed golfing with his son, reading Ken Follett novels with his daughter, and
cruising the Mediterranean and Baltic Seas with his wife. In 2009, Michael and his wife, Ketty,
welcomed their beautiful daughter, Isa, into the world, and she continued to be a brilliant light in
her Grampi’s life.
Over the last 20 years, Brian’s work to help organize Bravo Co. reunions and with his local
American Legion Post kept him close to his brothers in arms. Most recently, Brian and his daughter
Jennifer worked on many genealogical projects tracing the McCormick family to early America and
Ireland.
Brian is survived by his beloved wife, Joan; daughter, Jennifer Bennett (Michael and
step-grandchildren, Morgan and Haden); daughter-in-law, Ketty; granddaughter, Isabella; sisters,
Judy and Beth; brothers, Walt, Denny, and Terry; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in
death are his son, Michael; his parents, Aaron and Berniece; his sisters, Mary Jo and Suzie; and his
brother, “Mac.”
Brian will be remembered not only for his selflessness and bravery but also for his warmth, humor,
and unwavering friendship. He touched the lives of all who knew him, leaving an indelible mark on our hearts.
A private service honoring Brian will be held in Colleyville, TX and a celebration of life will be held in
New York for family members and close friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations
be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation in memory of Brian's lifelong commitment to serving
others.
May his soul rest in peace, and may his memory be a blessing to all who knew him.
