She was born to mother Charlcey Louise Edwards Quick and father Walter Calhoun Quick on April 14, 1924, in Palestine, TX.
After graduating from Palestine High School in 1941, where she was named Queen of Coronation, she attended Baylor University in Waco, TX. While there she majored in English, was a member of Alpha Omega, was named to the Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges & Universities in 1944 and 1945, and played drums in the Golden Wave Marching Band and in the Waco Symphony Orchestra.
Following graduation in 1945, Mary taught Speech and Drama at Delta State College in Cleveland, Mississippi, where she met her husband, Otis Hobbs Brigman, known to many as "Brig." They were married in Palestine, TX, on August 26, 1947, and lived the majority of their lives in Houston, TX.
Mary and Otis joined First Baptist Church in 1947 and were lifetime members. Ever the educator, Mary served her church for many years as a Sunday school teacher, camp counselor and chaperone for countless youth activities.
She was a member of the Baylor Student Foundation, and was proud to serve as the President of the President’s Advisory Board at Houston Baptist University, where she and her husband have endowed scholarships in their names.
Mary Pearl was preceded in death by her husband, Otis, as well as her sister, Louise Herod.
She is survived by her children, Linda Brigman Hopper, Peter and Mandy Brigman Chykaliuk, Julie and Otis Boyd Brigman, Kevin and Betsy Brigman Morin; grandchildren, Tyler Brigman Hopper and Travis Brigman Hopper, Carrie Rae Chykaliuk and Jonne Lin Chykaliuk, Miles Brigman Morin, Otis Cole Brigman and Christine Charlcey Brigman; and her great-grandchildren Savannah Pearl Hopper and John Brigman Hopper.
She will be laid to rest in a private family ceremony at Land of Memory in Palestine, TX. Her memorial service will be held on Friday, April 22, 2016, at 10:30am in the Chapel at First Baptist Church in Houston, TX.
