Diana was born on January 4, 1935 in Cairo, Illinois to Joseph and Dorothy Summers. Diana grew up in the Midwest with her siblings, Martha, Sue and David, and graduated from Atlantic (Iowa) High School in 1953. She met her future husband, Ronald D. Kay, in high school although they did not date until college. Diana worked as a telephone operator and in the dorm dining room to help defray college expenses and graduated from Iowa State University in 1957 with a degree in home economics. Ron and Diana were married on July 27, 1957. Ron was in the United States Air Force and soon after their marriage, he was sent to Wiesbaden, Germany. Diana taught home economics at Woodbine, Iowa and at the end of the school year joined him in Wiesbaden for three years. Upon their return from Germany, they settled in Nevada and Ames, Iowa where Ron professionally managed farms while working on his doctorate degree and Diana immersed herself in caring for their growing family. After obtaining his doctorate, Ron moved the family to College Station, Texas in November 1971. Diana was thrilled with this move as she hated the cold, snowy Midwestern winters.
Diana’s focus in life was to make a loving, comfortable and secure home for her husband and three daughters. In 1971, a dear friend encouraged Diana to study the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses. She was baptized in January 1973 and was a member of the College Station Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses at the time of her death. She loved the truths she learned from the Bible and faithfully preached the good news of God’s Kingdom and studied the Bible with others for over 50 years. Diana was known in the congregation for her giving spirit and hospitality.
After retirement, Ron and Diana enjoyed traveling the world together, visiting Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, China and many countries in Europe and South America. They especially enjoyed cruising.
Diana is survived by her husband, Ronald D. Kay of College Station, Texas; three daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia K. Withrow and husband, Kirk, Elizabeth K. Stephenson and husband, Michael, and Rhonda K. Reina and husband, Thomas, all of College Station, Texas; four grandchildren, Jeffrey M. Stephenson and wife, Crystal of Chickasha, Oklahoma, Laura E.
