In the early morning hours of August 11, 2023, Charles LaVon Marshall fell into the arms of Jesus, our Lord and Savior. Charles was born on December 27, 1932 in the simple, beautiful country home near Meadville, Mississippi. He was the oldest of three children.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Charles E. (Raz) Marshall and Purser Marshall; two nephews, Steve Runnels of North Zulch, TX and Gary Runnels of Meadville, MS; also, his two loving furry friends, Blue and Copper.
Charles is survived by his loving wife, Gloria Irby Marshall and their adopted son, Salvador Reyes Marshall and wife Ana, two grandchildren, Salvador Jr. and Eddice Malina, all of Bryan, Texas. He also leaves one sister, Vivian Runnels and one brother, Rodney Marshall both of Meadville, Mississippi; very special great-niece, Kayla Marshall Delaney and husband, Chuck of Meadville, Mississippi, great-niece, Brittany Wallace and husband, Doug and great-nephew, Brandon Campbell and wife, Kelsey of all of Bude, Mississippi; along with many great-great-nieces and nephews.
Charles’ life held a huge presence among all his family and friends. Even at an early age he was known for his generous heart and always putting God and family first before his own needs.
Charles and Gloria met in Meadville, Mississippi while Gloria was visiting her grandparents. He courted Gloria for one and one-half years and were married on September 12, 1964, in Meridian, Mississippi. They had many adventures together and moved to Texas in 1966. Charles made a career in the oil and gas industry and traveled to many states in his 56-year career. He started his career with Diamond Shamrock (now Valero Energy) as a Pipeline Superintendent. The last 32 years of his career he worked as a Pipeline Specialist. Charles loved his job and enjoyed traveling and working on pipeline construction. He was the overseer of many large projects in the United States and South America.
Charles was an extremely loving husband, father and friend. He and Gloria were always willing to help someone in need. They both shared a wonderful life together to do just that. They were truly soulmates and inspired and blessed others.
A funeral service for Charles will be held Monday, August 14, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Memorial Funeral Chapel College Station. Committal will follow at Kurten Cemetery, Kurten Cemetery Road, Kurten, Texas.
