Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday January 30 at Christ United Methodist Church in College Station. Interment with military honors will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday at Houston National Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Sunday January 29 at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station.
Charles was born January 24, 1933 in Ralls, TX. Charles began his military career at the age of 17, when he enlisted in New Orleans, LA on January 24, 1950. He was inducted at Fort Sam Houston and Fort Campbell, then on to Fort Benning for Jump School. He then went to the 187th Airborne RCT at Camp Chickamagua, Beppu, Japan. He fought in the Korean Conflict until November of 1953 as a 1st Airborne Ranger and was released from duty January 24, 1954. He then went through college and Theology School, becoming a United Methodist Minister.
He reenlisted in June 1965 as a 1st Lieutenant, starting at Fort Eustis as the Transportation School Chaplain. He received his training as a Chaplain at Fort Hamilton. He was then transferred to Vietnam and was Chaplain for the 1st Calvary; the 48th Transportation Group; the Red Ball Express; the 15th Medical Battalion and the 2 of 8 Infantry of the 1st Calvary.
Following Vietnam, he was transferred to Wildflicken, Germany as Post Chaplain, then Augsburg, Germany as Hospital Chaplain.
His next assignment was Fort Monmouth as Chaplain of the Electronics School, then Fort Dix. He then went into the Ohio State National Guard as the Deputy State Chaplain. He did tours in Gorbian, Germany as Deputy Chaplain 1st infantry Division and in Tegucigalpa, Honduras as Chaplain.
He retired as a Lt. Colonel after 34 years of service to his country.
Charles is preceded in death by his mother, Laura Morgan ; Marilyn Fay Reed Lockie ,his wife of 42 years; then, Mildred Janet Angstad Lockie, his wife of 6 years.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Alexander of Bryan; son and daughter-in-law, Dwight Jay and Deb Lockie of Grover Hill, OH.; daughter and son-in-law, Katherine and Mike Kriger of College Station; brother and sister-in-law, Allan and Barbie Smith of Newallay, OK.; sister, Stella Connor of Oklahoma City, OK.; grandchildren, Stuart Kriger and wife Anastasia Pankau of Austin, TX., Matthew Kriger of Houston,TX., Sean Kriger of Houston, TX., Megan Kriger of College Station, TX., Marklee Lockie and wife Yin of Newark, DE., Jon Lockie and wife Katie of Toledo, OH., and Tim Lockie of Grover Hill OH.; one great-grandson, Liam Lockie of Toledo, OH.
