In the Care of Brevard Memorial Funeral Home & Park
Lena Garrison Wolfe, age 95, of Rockledge, Florida passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2024.
Lena was born Lena Price Garrison on May 8, 1929 in Manchester, Kentucky. She was named after one of her mother’s sisters, Edna Lena Price. She was the 3rd oldest of eight children (6 boys and 2 girls). She graduated from Annville Institute in Annville, Kentucky which was a Christian boarding school. She grew up in the Greenbriar Presbyterian Church of Manchester, KY, sang in the choir and married Carl Wolfe there becoming Lena Garrison Wolfe.
Lena, her husband and the boys moved to Brevard County in 1962. They joined Cocoa Presbyterian Church. Lena was in the church choir, a member of the church’s women’s circle, a shepherd, helped with the floral/decorating events and an overall steward for the church.
Lena's happy place was out in her yard with her hands in the dirt. She was known for her green thumb whether with her flowers, plants or avocados. She grew up on a Kentucky farm out in the country where her mother ordered seeds to grow all kinds of fruits and vegetables so Lena and her siblings all had their mother’s love and talent for gardening for life.
As well as gardening, she also enjoyed reading, basketball (UK Wildcats and Orlando Magic, but any college, pro, men’s or women’s), word search puzzles, daily exercise, singing, square dancing, sewing, quilling, needlepoint and other crafts. Lena was not one to sit still. She believed in staying busy and active for her health and she liked feeling productive.
She was a wonderful cook but also easy to cook for and enjoyed all kinds of food but especially loved her shrimp, watermelon, hot tea with honey and any and all kinds of chocolate.
Lena worked at an insurance company in Kentucky. When they moved to Florida she babysat other kids while hers were young. Later she went to work at Golfview Elementary School in Rockledge where she was first the Kindergarten Aide for Sue’s class then became a Tutorial Aide. She retired with 25 years of service at Golfview. Regardless of working, she was a mother that was always present and available with love, support and encouragement. Whether it was care packages to her son in the Marines or volunteering for her sons’ Boys Scout troop or chaperoning her daughter’s band trips, she always showed up.
Preceded in death by husband, Carl Wolfe; son, Timothy D. Wolfe. Survived by sons, Russell E. Wolfe of Manchester, KY, Charles R. Wolfe of Rockledge, FL; daughter, Carla Sue Wolfe of Lipan, TX; granddaughter, Michelle-Monique Wolfe of Apollo Beach, FL; grandson, Colton M. Wolfe of Rockledge, FL; brother, Benjamin F.
