On Sunday, June 30, 2024, Inis Lois Powers Brinkle passed peacefully from this life into her eternal home and the loving arms of our Lord and Savior. Inis was born in Kingsport, TN on March 9, 1946, to her parents, Walter and Mary Powers. Inis was one of 15 children, with her being number 14, and her twin brother, Andy being number 13. Her and Andy were known as the Wombmates. Inis loved her name that she was given by her older sister, Wilma. She always said, I wish someone would name their daughter Inis. Inis leaves behind her husband of 39 years, James Brinkle Sr, her children Bobby Britt Jr, Bridgett Britt, and James Brinkle Jr. Inis’s biggest joy and blessings were her two granddaughters, Taylor Rhea Britt and Andromeda Dawn Brinkle. Inis’s siblings are Wilma Maultbay, Betty McCloud, Nadine Goldizen, Beulah (Andy) Austin, Andy (Angie) Powers, and Sue Gorman. Inis was affectionately called, Aunt Inie by countless nieces, nephews, and so many children that she poured love into throughout her life. Inis also leaves behind her fur baby, Monster, whom she loved dearly.
Inis was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Mary, her brothers, Henry, Bill, Calvin, Brad, and Gene; her sisters Eula, Martha, and Wanda. Inis was also greeted in heaven by her two daughters, Dawn (1996) and Tomya (2005). Inis moved to Cocoa, FL in the summer of 1958 along with her parents and many of her siblings. She loved this area and never tolerated anyone speaking poorly about it. She was very proud of the fact that she was baptized in the Banana River. Inis was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Merritt Island. She loved attending Bible studies, Sunday School, Evangelism classes, and worship services there. Inis always wanted to reach out and help others and one of her favorite ways to do this was to write a card and cook a meal. In her later years when she didn’t cook as much she wanted to bring everyone KFC if they needed a meal when they were sick, had a death in the family, a birth in the family, or were going through a trying time. If you knew mom you knew that she was patriotic and her blood ran red, white, and blue. If you were ever around when she got a phone call, you would loudly hear Lee Greenwood singing, God Bless the USA. You didn’t know if you should stand and salute while you waited for her to answer. Inis’s children are honored to have called her mom and we know and appreciate what a blessing she was and will always be. We are thankful for the memories and life we had together. Mom did her best for her children. She was one devoted mom and loved deeply. Services for Inis will be on Friday, July 26, 2024, 3:00, at First Baptist Church, Merritt Island in the Main Sanctuary with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations are being accepted for the family of Inis Brinkle:
