The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Space Coast Assisted Living facility in Titusville, Florida and to Joan Evangelista of Titusville, Florida, for their loving and attentive care. At Mr. Gardner’s request, services will not be held.
Mr. Gardner was born on January 12, 1943, in Ashtabula, Ohio to Edward and Marvis Gardner. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Rita Rose Balise, his sister Gaye Ann Cowart, and his brother Greg Morden Gardner; and survived by his son, Set Amber Balise, and brother Guy Harry Gardner.
Mr. Gardner served our Country as Seaman First Class of the US Coast Guard during the Vietnam conflict and was very proud of his military service. He graduated from the University of Central Florida with a bachelor’s degree in philosophy, published poetry and short stories for most of his adult life, and ended his career as a reference librarian in Midland, Texas.
Mr. Gardner loved the outdoors and spent many hours enjoying and caring for the beauty of nature. As an avid reader, Mr. Gardner especially admired the works of Robert Frost.
His brother Guy paid this tribute to him, ‘Gary met everyone with a smile and was a true gentleman. He appreciated living simply, was never in a hurry, and genuinely enjoyed each day. We will miss him dearly.”
