Elaine was born December 6, 1934 in Providence, RI to Oscar L. Steitz & Doris W. Steitz-Neville.
She graduated from Rhode Island College of Education obtaining a teaching certificate. She met Charles C. Locklair at the YMCA, and they married on December 6, 1958. Thanks to orders from the US Navy, they soon moved to Oxnard, CA, where she taught elementary school and had two sons, Paul & Steve. It was while living there in 1961, they were invited by a friend to the Church of Christ where they both obeyed the gospel by being baptized. She was a member at North Courtenay Church of Christ in Merritt Island. They also lived in Kodiak, Alaska and Hayward, CA before Charlie’s retirement brought them to Merritt Island in 1968. Elaine enjoyed selling Avon and did not return to teaching. She loved her family, her collectible dolls, jewelry, scarves, taking and looking at pictures, all things sparkly and purple, stars and until later in life, she loved working crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune and most sports (rooting for either teams from Florida or New England).
She was preceded in death by her husband, “Charlie”, her parents, and her brother, Robert Steitz,
She is survived by her two sons, Paul (Diane) Locklair of Merritt Island and Steven (Bettye) Locklair of Burleson, TX, three grandchildren, Adam (Kristen) Lewandowski, Andrew (Jennifer) Locklair, and Faith Locklair, two great-grandchildren, Adaline & Chelsea Lewandowski, sister-in-law Jan Steitz, cousin Meredith (Craig) Parker, and niece & nephew, Julie Steitz & Andy Steitz and dear friends.
A visitation for Elaine will be held Monday, June 17, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Wylie-Baxley Funeral Home, 1360 N Courtenay Pkwy, Merritt Island, FL 32953 with Funeral services to follow.
A committal service will occur Monday, June 17, 2024 from 3:30 PM to 4:00 PM at Brevard Memorial Park, 320 Spring St, Cocoa, FL 32927.
