She was born on October 9, 1931 in Loretto, Tennessee to the late Clinton and Ethel Green. Betty is survived by her loving husband, Herman Byrd. She will be dearly missed by her daughters Debbie Beck (Barry) and Pam Mitchell ( Bill ) along with her grandchildren: Jaime Beck, Meridith Dobbins, Kendall Sisk, Lauren Grossbauch, and Christopher Byrd. Betty was also a cherished great grandmother to Mark Carlile, Cassidy Dobbins, Riley Dobbins, Olivia Sisk, Avery Sisk, Anthony Allen, and Madeline Byrd. She
has a beloved sister, Sarah Robison, and dear nieces and nephews. Dear son, Steven Byrd and brother, Bob Green, predeceased Betty many years ago.
Betty had a passion for painting, cooking, baking, knitting, sewing, ceramics, and dancing. She enjoyed expressing her creativity through various artistic hobbies. She was most proud of and dedicated her life to being a homemaker for her family. Betty attended Loretto Elementary and High School before furthering her education at Florence State College. She was a small town girl with an adventurous spirit. She left the small town for a job in Washington, D. C. with the FBI, where she met Herman Byrd. They were married and celebrated 71 years together last March.
A ceremony to celebrate Betty’s life will be held at Wylie-Baxley Funeral Home, located at 1360 N. Courtenay Pkwy, Merritt Island, FL 32953 on Saturday January 20th, 2024. The visitation will begin at 1:00 and the service at 2:00. The family invites any and all to follow after the service to the cemetery for the interment at Brevard Memorial Park at 320 Spring Street, Cocoa, Fl 32927.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests another option of donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Aging Matters at 3600 W. King Street, Cocoa, FL 32926.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Wylie-Baxley Funeral Home for their assistance during this difficult time. Betty will be remembered for her faith, kindness, creativity, and the love she shared with her family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
