Thomas Douglas Boone, 79 of Lake Jackson, Texas passed away on Thursday March 20, 2025. Douglas was born on February 25, 1946 in Galveston, Texas to the late Thomas Fredric Boone and Hazel Margaret Boone.
He graduated from Lamar University with a degree in Biology, Kinesiology and Health in 1968. While at Lamar University he was National USTFF National 3000 Meter Steeplechase champion, Qualified for USA Olympic Trials, All Conference Track in 1964 and 1965, Runner -Up for Ty Terrell Relays Outstanding athlete in 1968 and Track and Field’s World List for Steeplechase in 1968. Doug was inducted into Lamar University Hall of Honor in 1975. He later obtained a Master of Educational Administration.
After graduation he was hired as a Teacher, Head Track Coach and Football Defensive backs coach at Brazosport Highschool in 1969. His track team won 3 consecutive District Titles in 1986, 1987 and 1988. Won 2 Regional Titles in 1975 and 1988. Doug was Inducted into the Greater Houston area Track Coaches of Honor in 1973. He Had several State Champions and State meet qualifiers. His team placed 7th 1977 and 10th place in 1983 in the state, they placed in the top 5 in the Nation for the Mile Relay and top 10 Sprint Medley Relay in 1977. Doug spent 21 years at Brazosport High school as a teacher and coach before becoming Assistant Principal for 10 years. Doug returned to his beloved Brazosport High school as Principal for 11 years before retiring in 2011. He received Principal of the Year for Region 4 in 1997. He was Awarded Gulf Coast Relays Honorary Meet Director in 2022.
Doug accomplished a lot in his life and was cherished and respected by students and faculty at Brazosport High School. He loved his family more than anything. His wife, Joan, was the most important thing to him and he always wanted to make sure she always had everything she needed. He was so proud of his 5 grandsons and bonus granddaughters; they meant everything to him. One of his favorite hobbies was fishing. He enjoyed going with friends and family and to see who could catch “The Big One”.
Preceded in death by his parents Thomas Fredric and Hazel Margaret Boone.
Survived by his wife Joan Ellen Boone, his son Thomas Douglas Boone II, wife Yanelly Rodriguez, grandsons, Nicholas Boone, his wife Cara Boone and Jonathan Boone, granddaughter Victoria Labrador. His daughter Staci Ellen Dahl, husband Jeffrey Charles Dahl, grandsons Haden Jeffrey, Liam Thomas and Nolan Charles Dahl, granddaughter Megan Marie Carter, husband Jesse Neil Carter and 2 great grandchildren Meadow Neil and Henry Michael Carter. His Siblings Michael Fredric Boone, Judy Marie Bird and Cynthia Boone Finn. His Sister-in-law Patti Cummings and husband Bob. Numerous Nieces and Nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on March 29, 2025, at Restwood Funeral home in Lake Jackson, Texas. Rosary at 10:30 a.m., Visitation at 11:30 a.m. and service at 12:30 p.m. Burial will be held at Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcock, Texas on April 5, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.
The pallbearers are Nicholas Boone, Jonathan Boone, Haden Jeffrey Dahl, Liam Thomas Dahl, Nolan Charles Dahl and David Stephenson.
Honorary Pallbearers are Michael Frederic Boone, Michael “Tiger” Boone, Jeffrey Charles Dahl, Ricky Wright and Dan “Dano” Holitzke
