She is preceded in death by her husband, Ray Pruitt; son, Robert LeBeau; first husband, Eric LeBeau; father, Garland Plummer; mother, Ozella Plummer; and sister, Juanita Merka.
Rita grew up in Danbury, Texas and graduated from Danbury High School in 1962. After attending Alvin Community College, she joined the United States Army. She served in the army for three years and three months and worked as an advanced medical specialist at the Letterman General Hospital in San Francisco. It was here she met Corporal Eric LeBeau. Rita and Eric were married a year later, on October 3, 1965. Together they completed two overseas tours in Ethiopia and Germany. Rita and Eric had three children, Ricky, who was born in Ethiopia, and the twins Robert and Cheryl, born in New Jersey. After Rita completed her service, Eric remained in the army for twenty years as the family was stationed in many different states.
Rita raised her children in the Baptist Church and was always a faithful member. She gave her life to Christ, but more than that, she strived each day to live for Christ. She led her children with a hand which provided stern godly guidance and discipline, tendered with a loving heart. She instilled in her children the value of a good name and the importance of being known for integrity and morality, to live a life worth living.
After Eric passed away in 2000, Rita married Ray Pruitt on May 26, 2001. Ray and Rita enjoyed gardening at their home in Danbury, traveling, and the time spent with their combined families; which included 4 sons, 2 daughters, and 6 grandchildren. Ray and Rita were also active members of the Greater Heights Baptist Church in Angleton. Rita retired from the U.S Fish & Wildlife and went back to school to finish her Associates Degree in General Studies. Upon graduation, she pursued a second career at the Bay Area Council on Drugs and Alcohol. Rita worked as a counselor helping individuals and families win their battles over alcohol/drug abuse and addiction. Everyone who knew and loved Rita was fully aware of her passion for her job at Bacoda. She lost a son to addiction and it was her mission to help others win the victory of their addictions.
She is survived by her children, Ricky LeBeau and wife, Sharon, and Cheryl Roberts and husband, Curtis; grandchildren, Curtis Roberts, wife Mariana, Jacob Roberts, Emily Rogholt and husband Chris, Brady LeBeau, wife McKinley; step son, Travis Pruitt and wife Trisha; step son, Colby Pruitt and wife Misty; brother, Jim Plummer; brother in law, Eugene Merka; and many great grandchildren, cousins, nephews and nieces.
