Phillip Dean Newcomb

Phillip Dean Newcomb, 76, of Cypress, TX, passed away on February 4, 2024. Phil was born on January 19, 1948 in Plymouth, IN to the late Robert Dean and Phyllis Jean Newcomb. From 1967-1971, Phil honorably served his country as a member of the United States Navy, proudly serving as a Seabee in Vietnam.

On January 29, 1972, Phillip embarked on a lifelong journey of love and companionship as he married Rebecca Ann Ferguson. Together, they shared over five decades of cherished memories, unwavering support, and boundless love.

Phil had a passion for flying RC planes and loved everything about flight and space exploration. Phil and his wife Becky enjoyed traveling and cruising. Phil was a member of The American Legion, SPARKS RC Community, Brazosport Baptist Temple, and the Purdue Alumni Association. Phil was the first in the family to graduate from college with a Mechanical Engineering degree from Purdue University. In his career he was responsible for engineering design on two nuclear power plants, was a licensed public engineer and finished his career with a contractor at NASA retrofitting the old Apollo mission buildings for the new missions to the Moon and Mars. As a member of his church he served on committees and oversaw construction to expand the church building.

Phil will be remembered for his gentle spirit, unwavering integrity, and generous heart. He touched the lives of many with his kindness, compassion, and sense of humor. His legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Phil was preceded in death by his wife Becky and parents Robert and Phyllis.

Phil is survived by his sons Michael and James; daughter-in-law Kristi; sister-in-law Vicki and brother-in-law Jeff; nieces Chelsea and Whitney; nephew Seth; Aunt Ginie; Cousins Donna, Diane (Dee), Dan and Paula,; grandchildren Nolan and Ellie.

A Celebration of Phil’s Life will take place on February 9, 2024 at Restwood Funeral Home and Memorial in Clute, TX at 12:00 pm, officiated by Bobby Streett. Visitation will be held on February 9, 2024 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at 1038 West Plantation Dr. Clute, TX 77531. Burial will immediately follow at 1038 West Plantation Dr. Clute, TX 77531.
