Nancy attended Southwest Texas State Teachers College (now Texas State University) where she met her future husband, Raymond A. Smith. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology in 1942. She and Raymond were married in 1943 in South San Antonio and moved to Austin. After a short time there, where Nancy taught school, they moved to Freeport. She worked in the lab at Dow Chemical Company before the birth of their children. In 1950, the family moved to Lake Jackson and in 1958, she returned to teaching school. She taught science at Lake Jackson Junior High for four years and then substituted in various Brazosport schools. She was active in the First United Methodist Church, the American Association of University Women, the Lake Jackson Garden Club, the Brazosport Garden Club and the Brazosport Museum of Natural Science.
Preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Nancy is survived by her children, Pamela Boyce (Richard) of Angleton, Deborah Bryant of Houston, and David Smith (Linda) of Clarkston, Michigan; by grandchildren, Melissa Boyce Landry (Roy David), Christopher Boyce (Lynsay), Barbara Bryant Sterbanz (Jonathan), Raymon Smith (Sarah), and Leanne Smith Price (Matthew); and by great-grandchildren, Anthony Monti, John David Landry, Quinn Sterbanz, Kenton Smith, Clarkson Smith, Annabelle Price, and Dellagrace Price.
A Celebration of Nancy’s Life will be held at Restwood Funeral Home in Clute, Texas at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2019, with burial to follow at Restwood Memorial Park. A Gathering to Share Memories of Nancy will be held 30 minutes prior.
