Carl Eugene Diehl, 77, of Lake Jackson, Texas, formerly of Freeport, Texas passed away after a long term illness on July 6, 2018 at his home. Carl was born to George Woodrow Sr. and Mary Belle (Murphy) Diehl on May 15, 1941 in Freeport, Texas. Carl graduated from Brazosport High School in 1959 and attended Brazosport College. He married Patsy Sue Erwin on June 6, 1964. After their marriage they moved to Atlanta, Georgia where he was stationed at Fort McPherson. He enjoyed his time in the Army receiving the Army Commendation Medal and attained ranking of Spec. 5. The award stated “The manner in which Specialist Diehl performed his duties reflects great credit upon him and is in keeping with the finest traditions of the military service.” He was also a member of the Post Smallbore Championship Rifle Team.
Carl worked for Dow Chemical Company for 28 years. He retired from Dow in 1998 as a group Supervisor in Project and Contract Administration. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, music and playing his guitar and he had a love for everything automotive. He loved his family and loved to work with them on projects. His granddaughter’s favorite saying about him was “If Poppy can’t fix it, no one can.” After his retirement from Dow he decided to return to work and worked for various companies until he retired completely in 2017.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents and numerous aunts and uncles.
Carl is survived by his wife, Patsy Sue, son, Dr. Mark Anthony Diehl and wife Amy (Simmons) Diehl, daughter, Priscilla Kay (Diehl) Huvar, grandchildren, Bella Annalise Huvar and Scarlett Jolie Huvar, brother, George Woodrow Diehl, Jr. and wife Pat, sister, Mary Kathryn (Diehl) Bolin and nieces and nephews, Kirk Diehl, wife, Lisa; Jeffrey Diehl, wife, Jenn, Jann (Diehl) Tracy and husband, Jason, Donnis Bolin, and Susan (Bolin) Bilse and husband Herbert Bilse and great nieces and nephews and great great niece and nephew.
His visitation service will be held at Restwood Funeral Home in Clute, TX on Monday, July 9, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Masonic Rite service starting at 7:30 p.m. The funeral service will be at Restwood Funeral Home in Clute, TX on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.
The burial will be at Restwood Memorial Park immediately following the funeral service.
Serving as pallbearers will be Lee Massoletti, Speedy Rogers, Kirk Diehl, Jeff Diehl, Colin Diehl, Janson Jones, and Herbert Bilse
