Billy Edwin McCoy (Papaw) of Lake Jackson, passed from this life at the age of 86 on June 22, 2014. Billy’s physical birth was September 20, 1927, at Wellington, Texas, to Lonnie S. McCoy and Pearl Mae Brock McCoy. Billy loved the Lord and surrendered to His call at a youth revival in 1944 at the First Baptist Church in Velasco, Texas.
As an amateur, Billy was a light-heavyweight “Golden Gloves Champion.” He also competed as a professional boxer with an impressive winning record. Throughout his full life Billy stayed busy by working as a commercial deep sea fisherman; a longshoreman; sergeant, chief deputy, and investigator in Brazoria County; dock manager at Bridge Harbor Marina; foreman for Styrothane; vice-president of Win-Way; owner of Times Past Antiques; and a jack of all trades at K-C Packaging until the age of 83. Billy enjoyed working with his hands and frequently created unique presents for his family. A strong Christian, Billy served as both a deacon and an elder over the years.
He was preceded into Heaven by his parents, his sister Rosetta McCoy Freudensprung, his brother Gale (Mike) McCoy, his first wife Nelma Merrill McCoy, and his loving wife Phyllis Seidler McCoy. Surviving family include his son Kevin Merrill McCoy (Hang); daughters Karyn McCoy Munson (Henry William), Lisa McCoy Bonnet (Dennis), Leys Ann Carter Curley (Pat), and Kathy Carter White; grandsons Charles Bryan Batchman (Hope), Jeff McCoy (Sonia), Brad McCoy (Jenny), David McCoy, Josh White; granddaughters Tara Munson Rice (Trey), Loren Munson Roberson (Jeff), Karley Munson Deeley (Dan), Mindy Lyn Bonnet, Julia Marie White, Chandler Curley, Christina and Helena McCoy; great-grandsons Caleb, Andrew, Joel, and Micah Batchman, Andrew and Henry Rice, Matthew and Garrett McCoy; great-granddaughters Ashley and Madison Batchman, Averi, Allie Rae, and Ainsley Roberson, Stella Rice, Makenzie Deeley; brother-in-law Charles Seidler; former in-laws Cindy McCoy and Loyd White; lifelong friends Jimmy Jones and Jim Callais; and a host of aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and cousins. Having lived in this area since 1943, he also has a multitude of friends here, as well as many rejoicing with him now in Heaven.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Country Village, Cypress Woods, the Hospice Care Team, and Dr. Scott Rogers for the excellent care they took of our father during the last days of his life. Billy loved his Church family, and we thank them for their devoted support.

Visitation will be Saturday, June 28, at 2:00 PM, at New Beginnings Community Church in Lake Jackson, with the funeral service following at 3:00 PM. Honorary Pallbearers are Kelly Freudensprung, Fred Ortiz, Jimmy Jones, and Jim Callais.
