Shirley E. Dunn was born in Pembroke, Ontario on June 6,1929 to Joseph and Ann Jane Robinson. Her father was a successful farmer and the Mayor of Pembroke for many years. She would often speak fondly of her years growing up driving a tractor in the summer and playing in the winter snow.

After her nursing career, Shirley transferred successfully into the retail industry, ultimately retiring after many years with the Burlington Coat Factory.
Shirley was an impeccable homemaker and talented seamstress. She enjoyed many hobbies including baking, gardening and craftwork. In her later years she was amazing at putting together difficult and beautiful puzzles.
