We gather here to celebrate the exceptional life of Robert Chevalier, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. On this sad occasion, let us remember his incredible journey during his 86 years on this Earth.
Robert Chevalier was born on November 5, 1937, in Fresno, CA, to his loving parents, Thelma and Gaston. From the beginning, it was evident that Robert would grow into a remarkable individual who made a lasting impact on all those fortunate to know him.
In 1987, Robert entered into a lifelong partnership with his beloved wife, Patsy Chevalier. Together, they shared 36 beautiful years filled with love and companionship. Their partnership combined their families from previous unions. Robert had two beautiful children, James Chevalier and Shawna Wolfe. Although tragedy struck with the loss of James, Robert’s unwavering strength carried him through these difficult times. Robert was a stepfather to Kimberly Horn, Chris Henvit, and Keith Henvit.
Family played an integral role in Robert’s life. He took great joy in being a grandfather to fourteen grandchildren: Dusten Chevalier, Andrew Chevalier, Chad Wolfe, Tyler Wolfe, Christen Guilmette, Matthew Horn, Stephanie Henvit, Troy Henvit, Courtney Henvit, Abbie Henvit, Kari Jimenez, Chris Henvit, Kevin Henvit, and Samantha Henvit. Robert is also a great-grandparent to twelve great-grandchildren. His grandparenting style was marked by patience, encouragement, fairness, and setting an example for others to follow.
Some of the fondest memories built between Robert and his grandchildren were forged during their three-wheeler rides and tractor hay rides on his ranch in Selma. His dedication to being an honest role model was genuinely inspiring.
Growing up in Fresno shaped Robert into a hardworking individual we all knew him to be. For 38 years, he served as City Inspector for the City of Fresno. His contributions to the growth and development of his community were immeasurable. For many years, he was a passionate grape raisin farmer in Kerman and Selma, CA. His commitment to his work was unparalleled and earned him great respect among his peers.
Before dedicating himself as a city inspector, Robert proudly served our nation for four honorable years in the United States Navy. Robert’s dedication did not end with his time in the service; he continued to serve as a member of the American Legion, ensuring that the sacrifices made by Veterans were never forgotten.
Faith played a significant role in Robert’s life; he was a devout Christian. His unwavering belief in God guided him through life’s challenges and imbued him with strength and compassion.
Robert had a deep connection with animals, particularly with his beloved dogs. Throughout his life, his ranch was home to countless dogs and cats fortunate enough to receive his love and care. His kindness towards all creatures showed his genuinely compassionate nature.
Robert was an avid collector and lover of cars. You could see him at a nearby car lot, checking out the latest car or taking it for a test drive. He enjoyed many sports. He was a San Francisco 49ers and Giants Fan. He hardly ever missed a Golden State Warriors game.
Robert was a fantastic storyteller. He had a lot to share about his remarkable life and all the experiences he had along the way. There was hardly a subject that he didn’t have a story to tell about.
We bid farewell to Robert Chevalier, a remarkable individual whose legacy will live forever on within our hearts. Let us remember him for his honesty, kindness, patience, and hard work – qualities that made him truly extraordinary. May we find solace knowing that heaven has gained another angel who will continue to watch over those he loved most.
Rest peacefully now, Papa Bob; your memory will forever be cherished by all those lives you touched.
