He was predeceased by his brother John in 1993 and his sister Rosemarie, who passed away in 1938 at age 8. Bill was born August 4, 1931, in Detroit, MI. He attended Greenfield Union Elementary School and St. Rita High school, in which he graduated in 1950. During high school, he owned a 1927 REO Wolverine and was known as “the guy with the really cool car”. He and his high school buddies would often go cruising in the Wolverine and would take trips to nearby Walled Lake. After high school, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a medic/dental assistant. He was very proud of his military service and often talked about his “soldier of the week” award for being the best dressed soldier in his outfit. After military service, he began work in Detroit, MI as a press operator for Auto City Sheet Metal Co., which later became a division of Lear Corporation. During his career, he worked his way up to become the head of Quality Control of his division and retired in 1994. He was very happy in retirement and would often say that it was the best job he ever had. During retirement, he mainly enjoyed staying home with his dogs and cats, working around the house and feeding the squirrels in his yard. Bill was a smart and talented individual with interests in numerous subjects, including photography, science, astronomy and electronics. He attended RETS (Radio Electronics Television Schools) Electronics School on a part time basis in 1961 and afterward, repaired radios and televisions as a side job. He was also an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting and camping. He took his family on many memorable camping trips during summer vacations, including a three-week trip across the USA from Michigan to Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming and back. Bill would say the Yellowstone trip was always his favorite. He was a country music fan and especially liked the music of Johnny Cash and Jim Reeves. He was a great father, who sacrificed a lot so that his children might have a better life than he did. His dream was fulfilled and all of his children are very grateful to him. He will always be loved and will be sorely missed. Visitation Monday 3-8 pm at Resurrection Funeral Home, 40800 Hayes, Clinton Township. Funeral Tuesday 11 am at the funeral home.
