Richard James Johnson, age 82, of Clinton Township, Michigan passed away on Tuesday, December 21, 2021. Richard was born December 1, 1939 in Detroit, Michigan to the late John & Esther (Quelch) Johnson.
Richard served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years. He retired from Kux Manufacturing after 25 years. Richard was a proud member of Dignity Detroit for 20 years. He volunteered with Henry Ford Hospice for 20 years. He spent 12 winters in Palm Springs, CA and treasured his travels to Europe. Richard spent 40 years with the love of his life, James Messana. Richard made a lasting impact and saw the good in everyone who knew him. He will be greatly missed by many.
Richard is survived by his loving husband, James Messana; his children, Robert (Alexis) Johnson, Elise Smith; grandchildren, Shannon Smith, Brendan Smith, Michelle Smith, Sarah Smith; a sister, Cheryl Wozny; nephews and nieces, Carl & Chris Johnson, Beth DeForest, Kim Cason; the mother of his children, Mary Ann Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Carl Johnson.
A visitation for Richard will be held Sunday, December 26, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Kaul Funeral Home, 35201 Garfield Rd, Clinton Township, MI 48035. An instate will occur Monday, December 27, 2021 from 9:30 AM to 10:00 AM with a funeral service at 10:00 AM at St. Thecla Catholic Church, 20740 S Nunneley Rd, Clinton Township, MI 48035.
