I was in Mr. C's class back in 1976.  I think it was his first year at MCHS.  While I did not become an electrical engineer, I did become an engineer and to this day I think of the first moment I heard music coming from the crystal diode set he helped (forced) me to build..it was sweet music and opened my eyes to other things.  Thank you for inspiring me too.

His lessons in both class and life will stay with me forever. Mr. Carolan was an amazing inspiration to so many people in so many ways and I count myself as very lucky to have him as such a big part in shaping my life.

Reading through all of these testimonies of John's life well lived for Christ and the love he had for His Savior and others is truly a blessing.  I cannot remember a time when we saw each other at family events or wherever that John did not have a smile on his face or when he was not sharing  the Lord and what Christ had done for him.   Bill and John are enjoying fellowship once again, both in the presence of our wonderful Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.   Until the time we can join them in Glory, may Christ fill you with His grace, strength, peace and guidance as you live out your lives for Him.  Know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Had the honor of knowing him at Mount Clemens High School.  A very good teacher and great individual.

Without Mr. Carolan's mentoring and guidance, I would not have become an engineer.  He was a great teacher and a super person.  Rest in peace Mr. C.

It was with a heavy heart on Wednesday that I learned of the passing of Mr. Carolan. I had the great fortune and honour to know and to be taught by John at MCHS (1979-1983), in his electronics classes.
I believe every student has a teacher or two, that they remember fondly and who has made differences in their lives. Mr Caroline certainly was one of those teachers for me.
Please know, my thoughts are with you "Mr. C" and my prayers are with your Family. It was an honour and pleasure knowing you Sir....

I share in the sorrow of John's home-going but rejoice with you that he is now fully restored to perfect health and in the presence of his Lord and Savior.  The separation is temporary and one day you'll be reunited for eternity.  I'm praying that God will give you the strength and comfort needed as you face the days ahead.

John Carolan was most influential in the beginning of my Christian walk as a student at Cass Tech in 1971.I ran into him again at Bible Study Fellowship. I can't wait to see him again on the other side.

I will always remember you letting Roy Feger and myself make donut runs to Gibbons bakery! You taught me so much about Electronics, Determination and especially life! you always stressed the value of Hard work,Thanks, Mr "C" you were a Great Man!

Mr. Carolan was the best teacher I ever had. Of all the influences in my life, his most encouraged my carrier path. I hope his family knows the reverberating impact he has had on the world through his students.

Mr. Carolan was, is, & will always be my hero.  His life lessons--from over a quarter century ago--continue to timelessly re-reach & re-teach me.  The love he exuded for his family & his example shapes the parent, the husband, and the man that I am today.  I pray for my students, because he fervently prayed daily for all of us.  I walk and stumble with Christ, because this man showed us how.  I thank God for putting Mr. Carolan into my path and thank Mr. Carolan for putting me on the path to God.

If ever the Lord "sought a man after His own heart," Mr. Carolan's heart was up to the task.

I didn't realize his middle name was "Bridges" until I read this obituary.  Yet, what could be more perfect?  Mr. Carolan led a life building bridges for people to Christ.

I pray his work, his example, his faith, his love, and his wisdom continue to touch my family & friends through me, and ask that he put a good word in to "The Big Guy" for all of us.  I trust he will continue mentoring me from his new position, whenever I falter.

God Bless you Mr. Carolan and your family.  He's already blessed us with you--a treasure, a bridge--here on earth.

JC had a knack for taking boys and turning them into men, he taught us about electronics, but more importantly he taught us about life.  A great mentor, inspiration, and man. (I still can't go to Dunkin Donuts without thinking of JC)

This man along with Mr. Winker was the biggest influence on my life during my High School years.  I am so humbled and thankful to know him.  Not only was he a great teacher of Electronics, but also of life.  I did not become a Christian until after I joined the Navy, but I will always remember him with his Bible on his desk and telling us the word and how it would apply to us as we entered adulthood.  Through him I joined the Navy and became an Aviation Electrician working on many different aircraft around the world and still do to this day.  Out of the blue three years ago through my mom he called me in Virginia and I could tell it was hard for him to speak.  I had told him that I had accepted Christ as my Savior and that I had married a God loving women and started a family.  I will tell you his voice was overwhelmed with joy with the news.  Your influence and prayers were and are always present in my life, thank you Mr. John Carolan for everything!

We are sincerely sorry to lose our good friend and neighbor, John Carolan.

Mr. Carolan was the favorite teacher for so many of us at MCHS. I had him at least 2 hours a day for 3 years, teachers aid, stage crew and cut his grass outside of school. He always had a positive message for the young men in his class and is directly responsible for me and many others pursuing careers in the electronics field. This man was a true mentor to me and many others.

Mr. C changed my life for the good.  I owe him a great deal as he not only taught me about Electronics, he taught me about the important things in life.  He was the greatest teacher of my life. He loved peanut butter cookies, I would make them for him when my grades were looking a bit shaky. He was a very special man that i will never forget.  Rest in Peace Mr. C.

Mr.Carolan or "J.C." was the reason i stayed in school."MCHS from 1992 until his retirement my senior year" i looked forward to his class everyday. He was sincere and wasn't afraid to show his faith in God and people respected him for it even tho they may have not agreed with him.Rest in Peace J.C.. My prayers go out to the Carolan family...O Captain my Captain!

I have had many good teachers, any number of whom had some impact on my education, and then there was J.C. - He didn't teach us about electronics or computing, he provided us a space to learn those things and a guidance that you can't buy or duplicate. He taught me about myself and about life, like a second father. By the time I knew J.C. I was off Church and had great issues with it. Being a secular, public school student, I would have been offended by anyone else reading to me from the bible, but it wasn't ideology with him, it was sincere and it was love. I am a technologist today, because of John Carolan and I think I owe some of the person I am to him as well. What an absolute treasure of a man, I hope he had some idea how many of us he affected and just how deeply. His work is done now, God rest his soul.

John Carolan was a special mentor for both my boys.
He was the BEST.  His guidance helped them both technically and personally.
He was genuine teacher, friend, and much respected person, who touched so many students with his guidance and genuine interest in each and every one.
He certainly contributed to many students careers, especially my two boys.  They loved his classes and respected his opinions.  They both are successful in their respected Computer Engineer careers, thanks to John Carolan.  He will be in our hearts forever. My thoughts are with Ann and their family.  Martha Kelley

They didn't come along better than Mr. Carolan. He was one of the most influential men in my life. Nobody cared about their students like him and he was one of the few teachers I have ever had that could make kids learn things that he didn't even know himself.

Mr. C piqued my interest in Electronics....and in Management.  I still use many of the basic skills that he taught me in Electronics, and I am still in management.  On Fridays I remember him saying "see you in church".  A very good man.  Paul Henkel MCHS class of 1983.

Mr. Carolan was my favorite teacher.  MCHS1984-87.  He taught us many things.  Always enjoyed his daily sermons to us.

He was so good at teaching electronics, I will always remember him teaching us to solder and the different resistors.

Dear Karen, I am so sorry about the loss of your Father. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

It was my great and distinct pleasure to know John.  Our times in Florida at Word of Life together and our discussions that invariably led to talking about Church and our Lord Jesus, were invigorating and inspiring.  John will be missed.  However, I believe that he has received a Well Done from the One that matters.  We share Ann's loss as well as the entire family.  May God's grace be sufficient for each of you as you journey together  through this time.
