JoAnn Edna Johnson passed away on July 8, 2022 at the age of 89. She was the loving wife of Robert Johnson for 68 years. The beloved mom of Susan (Walter) Decorek and Gail Hernalsteen (Donald Waite). The cherished grandma of Jonathon Decorek, Jay Hernalsteen and Dana Hernalsteen. She was the dear sister-in-law of Kenneth and Nancy Johnson. JoAnn is also survived by her nieces and nephews Kristen (Andrew) Savage, Bill Krebs, Aimee Johnson (Mel Benkert), and Jill (Scott) Greb.
JoAnn was born at her family home in Detroit to William and Hilda Krebs on November 2, 1932. She was a child of God. She and her brother William were baptized and raised in Christian faith at Our Savior Lutheran Church.
JoAnn was blessed to have met Robert and created a beautiful family and wonderful life during their 68 years together. Their home was a welcoming place for all of their family and friends. She took great joy in the time her and Robert spent traveling and their shared faith. JoAnn was a dedicated mother to Susan and Gail. As a servant of Christ, she baptized both of her daughters in the same church and raised them in the Christian faith. JoAnn would gladly drive the girls to Sunday school, Catechism and youth group several times a week.
JoAnn was known as grandma, nana and gma to Jonathan, Jay and Dana. She showered them in love, including kisses and cuddles. She was their mentor and provided insight and words of wisdom. She taught them card games, dominoes, and how to build gingerbread houses. She was also their number one sports fan. Attending as many hockey, soccer, lacrosse, and football games as she could.
JoAnn was a working mom while her girls were growing. She was an accounting clerk, bookkeeper, teller and customer service representative for the National Bank of Detroit, now called Chase. Along with being a career women, she was a Girl Scout leader, room mom and a chaperone on many school and youth trips. JoAnn loved to host dinners, parties and get-togethers with delicious food and a beautiful table. Having her home full of friends and family brought her so much enjoyment.
She was a dedicated member of St. Peter Lutheran church where she served on the altar guild, the women ministry and the Council of Lutheran Women.
JoAnn was many things to many people. She was loved and will be missed by many.
O Christ, Take this faithful servant to your promised eternal home. Amen
A Celebration of Life will take place on Thursday, July 14, 2022 at 11:00am at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 17051 24 Mile Road in Macomb. Friends may visit the church on Thursday beginning at 10:00am.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to the St. Peter Macomb Giving Tree.
