On Tuesday, April 14, 2020, Herbert Collins Hoffman passed away at the age of 93. Herb was born March 25, 1927 in Detroit, MI to Joseph and Elizabeth (Sly) Hoffman. Herbert was preceded in death by his loving wife Celia Ann (Goike) Hoffman. He joined the Navy at the age of 18 and served from 1945 to 1946.
Herb had a passion for pigeons. From the time he was a young boy he raised pigeons. Later he began to race them. He has quite a few pigeon trophies in his basement. Later he began his own business, Seymours Collision in Utica, of bumping and painting. He kept his pigeons in the back of the business. Herb also enjoyed hunting in his younger years and trips to the casino. He was known for his quick wit, hardy laugh, and his lifetime of stories. He could go on for hours telling stories. Never the same story twice.
Herbert was preceded in death by his brothers; Joseph, Carl, Robert, Gerald, Roger and Peter and his sisters Rosemary, Betty Jean and Patricia. He is survived by sisters, Sally and Susanne, as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family will greet friends on Saturday, October 3rd for a memorial mass in Hebert’s honor at Holy Innocents Catholic Church, 16359 Frazho Road, in Roseville, 11:00am instate until the time of mass at 12:00pm, concluding with full military honors.
