Frank Joseph Kengel, Jr., a devoted family man, skilled craftsman, and beloved friend, passed away on December 5, 2024, at the age of 59. He was the cherished husband of Holly for 40 wonderful years, they met at the young age of fifteen at the Lakeside Ice Arena and were inseparable ever since. Their love was one for the ages, never wavering. The proud father of Nicholas (Nichole) Kengel, Alysha Kengel, Brandon Kengel (Elizabeth Desmarais). Frank was a loving Papa to Sumer, Blake, Tyler, and Bella, who were his pride and joy.
Born into a close-knit family, Son of Frank and Joyce Kengel. Frank (Joey) was the dear brother of Sandy (Dave) Mrazek, Marty (Tammy) Kengel, Theresa (Larry) Duty, Anna Kengel, Elizabeth Kengel, and Sheryl (Todd) Bidwell. As a brother he was a mediator, never allowing any of the siblings to stay mad at one another. He was also a protector, never allowing anyone to hurt them. He knew from a young age that his siblings love for each other was a gift and it must be cherished. Raised to be a jack of all trades, a salesman at stampshows, and a farmer. He could sell ice to an Eskimo. His love extended to his adored fur baby, Floki, who was his constant companion.
Frank was a master mechanic and the proud owner of Sparks Car Care in Sterling Heights. His career began there in 1992, he took ownership from 1999-2007 making the business a trusted name in the community. From there he acquired Universal Automotive in Shelby from 2010-2017. His passion for cars, especially muscle cars, was unmatched. Frank’s prized 1974 Challenger and 1970 Monte Carlo were testaments to his dedication and skill.
Beyond his work, Frank found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved watching action movies, camping with family, and casting a line as a dedicated fisherman. Frank was also known for his memorable sayings, “Fish On!” and “it'll be alright little buckaroo”, and for his knack for creating moments of laughter and connection.
Above all, Frank’s greatest love was his family. He relished his role as “Papa,” a title he wore with pride, and was a father figure to many in his extended family, including nieces and nephews. His warmth, humor, and steadfast love will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Frank’s family invites friends and loved ones to honor his incredible life and the legacy of love he leaves behind. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Resurrection Funeral Home, 40800 Hayes Road in Clinton Township. A Funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at 10:00 am at St. Matthias Catholic Church, 12311 19 Mile Road in Sterling Heights. Friends may visit the church on Wednesday at 9:30 am. Frank will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township.
