Carrie Vaughn was born on August 8, 1931 to the late John Sylvester and Lucille Wright. Carrie was one of 13 children in which 9 of her siblings preceded her in death. She was brought up in a Christian home and accepted Christ at an early age.
Carrie along with her siblings formed a quintet known as the “Fowler Singers” and trio known as the “Fowler Sisters”. They were known throughout the community for singing God’s praises and spreading the message of the Gospel through the ministry of music wherever they went.
Carrie went on to marry her high school sweetheart Oscar Jones who preceded her in death and in that union 5 daughters were born. Her youngest daughter Valerie preceded her in death.
Carrie worked at St. John Hospital as a Unit Ward Clerk in Pediatrics for 27 years and was loved by all. When around her, you felt Christ’s loving, gentle, caring Spirit that rested within her.
In 1969 Carrie started the next chapter in her life when she met Richard Hiram Vaughn (also known as HiHi, who preceded her in death) and 10 years later, in 1979, they were wed.
The Lord called Carrie home on July 1 of 2021. She leaves to cherish her memory her children: LaDise (Earl Michael) Thomas of California, Cheryl Miller, Sheryl Jones, Sylvia (Christopher) Rosemond, Dennis Vaughn, Douglas (Lilly) Vaughn, Iva Vaughn; grandchildren: Lakeia (Chris) Sparkman, Tremayne (Rochelle) Thomas, Simira (Dave) Simmons, Joi Miller, Shalana Thomas, DeAnna Jones-Harris, Matthew (Kelly) Thomas, Evan (Maria) Thomas, Jasmine Vaughn, Dion Vaughn, Andre Vaughn, Jade Vaughn, Brian Vaughn and 14 + great grandchildren, her siblings: Arthur Fowler, Mable Mackenzie, Ernest (Joann) Fowler of Georgia and sister-in-law: Geraldine Fowler, along with a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends who will rejoice in her memory forever.
