As a career funeral director, I am proud to say that Bernie was one of my first "teachers". I was a young apprentice at Resurrection Funeral Home working under the direction of Barry Burnham and Bernie took pride in making sure that I was properly "indoctrinated". For many years he and I worked side by side and he watched me grow and flourish as a funeral director.  He was like a grandfather to me. He and Rita attended my wedding and we stayed connected as long as I lived in Michigan. He also enjoyed seeing my children when I would bring them around the funeral home. Bernie personally assisted with funerals of many of my own family members at Resurrection F.H. and at St. Michael Catholic Church. I was recently thinking of Bernie a few months back when my own mother passed away and I returned to Michigan and St. Michael for her services. I hadn't seen or heard from him in many years but smiled knowing his presence was felt all around the church while I was there. My family extends sincere condolences to Bernie's family. My dad, my brothers and my sister all have great memories of Bernie and Rita and wish him peace as he is together with Rita again.

Bernard, we know how much you loved your Dad and we want to let you know how much we care but remember the spirit of the loving heart from your Dad will live in your memories for ever.

Bernie loved all of you very much.  He often talked about his grandchildren and was especially proud to be a great grandfather.  
Bernie Jr. “Bomber” and Elaine, you both have dedicated the last few year of Bernie’s life to caring for him.  We marveled at how you helped him stay in touch with those he held close to his heart and the special occasions that we shared with him and you.  
I will never forget Bernie’s smile and hugs whenever he came to the funeral home.

Bernie was a dedicated funeral director who cared deeply about taking care of the needs of the families we served.  He was my right hand man on hundreds of funeral services we had the privilege to conduct.  No one will ever take his place, may he rest in peace forever, Barry Burnham

Dear Uncle Bernie, you are a great patriarch of your family and will truely be missed. But God has called you by name and you must leave us on earth to join Rita and your family and friends that have gone before you. May you be pleased dinning with the Lord.
