Anthony G. Tancredi, a proud veteran and devoted family man, passed away on September 11, 2024, at the age of 75. Anthony's deep love for his country was evident throughout his life, especially during his service in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Drafted in 1969, he served with courage overseas for eight months before returning home due to battle wounds. He was honorably discharged on January 26, 1971. Throughout his military career, Anthony received numerous commendations, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Sharpshooter Badge, Marksman Badge, and the prestigious Purple Heart. It was during his recovery at a military hospital that Anthony's life changed forever when Georgeanne, his soon-to-be wife, visited him. He proposed, and they went on to share 52 beautiful years together.
Anthony's love for dogs started during his time in the Army as a dog handler and remained a constant throughout his life, always having a faithful companion by his side. His other passions included cheering for his beloved Detroit Tigers, watching game shows, and playing cards with his family. After 34 years of dedicated service as a computer operator with DTE, Anthony retired in 2001. He faced an eight-year battle with ALS but remained strong and resilient throughout.
Anthony is survived by his loving wife, Georgeanne; his children, Pete (Tracy) and Tom; his cherished grandsons, James and Charlie; and his sisters, Darlene VanDeVelde, Kathleen Gaulin, and Marlene Caramagno.
Visitation for Anthony will be held on Sunday, September 15, 2024 from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Resurrection Funeral Home, 40800 Hayes Road in Clinton Township.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are appreciated to the ALS of Michigan, 24359 Northwestern Hwy., Suite 100, Southfield, MI 48075.
