Elizabeth Anna Went

Betty was born on August 11, 1944, in Des Moines, Iowa to the late Stella R. and John F. Hernberg. She was raised in Longmeadow, Massachusetts, with her twin sisters, Janis Oles (Hernberg) and Joan Doherty (Hernberg). Betty was a proud graduate of Colby College in Waterville, Maine, and then obtained a Master’s Degree from the University of Connecticut School of Social Work. She dedicated her life to practicing social work as an employee of the Archdiocese of Hartford for 38 years. At the time of her retirement, she was the Director of Professional Services. Upon her retirement, Betty was privileged to be a volunteer with Forgotten Felines of Westbrook, Connecticut helping save the lives of countless cats and spending hours on the telephone managing the “kitty line”. The loving cats she cared for and the dedicated colleagues she worked with enriched her life beyond measure.

Betty is survived by her beloved son, David Went, her grandchildren, Ethan and Molly Went, and her sisters, Janis Oles and Joan Doherty, and Joan’s husband, Harry.
