Myrtice Collier. She was the eldest of four daughters, followed by three
sisters Marie, Linda and Gloria.
Seeking better opportunities, the family moved from Chattanooga, Tenn,
and relocated to 9203 Birchdale Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio in 1953.
She attended Hough Elementary, Addison Junior High, and graduated
from the "Old East High" in 1964. Her dearest and only childhood friend
was Betty Mason on Blaine Avenue.
Evelyn was extremely shy and super dedicated to supporting her mom in
every way that she could.
Upon graduation, her first job was in the Dietary Dept, at Mt. Sinai
Hospital located at East 105th Street. Evelyn was later employed at Bobby
Brooks Warehouse on Kelly Avenue, due to the assistance of our cousins,
"The Porters.”
It was at this location that Evelyn met, and later married Mr. Orlando Lee
on August 2,1969. It is a true fact, "Opposites Attract!”
After Bobby Brooks closed, Evelyn worked at May Company, downtown
location during the Christmas season. She proved to be one of the "Best
Gift Wrappers." Christmas was her favorite holiday, with or without
presents. Showing a great love for children, she joined the teaching staff of
SEA-DOC at Second Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church.
Evelyn accepted CHRIST at an early age under the late Pastor James Frank
Brown of Second Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church and remained
faithful until she was affected by a long illness.
She served and cultivated her beautiful first soprano voice in the Second
Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church Choir. Evelyn was a Charter Member
of the Young Adult Choir, and served over 35 years with the Echoes. Evelyn
received a prestigious award for over 25 years of choir service.
In the Second Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church Music Ministry, her
first solo concert was in 1980 sponsored by the Nurses Guild. She was a
faithful member of the Progressive District Music Ministry for 35 years.
Evelyn participated in Sister Ethel Ball Green's Community Choir, and
Craig Turner's Benefit Choir Against Drug Abuse.
During her stay at Grande Pointe Nursing Facility, she shared her joy of
singing and dancing.
Many years of service was devoted to co-teaching Vacation Bible School
with Sis. Quentina Vaughn.
On a personal note, her hobbies included buying all kinds of books,
especially bibles; and collecting photos of her family. If you knew Evelyn,
she truly enjoyed eating fried chicken wings, BBQ ribs, potato chips, and
drinking an ice cold Pepsi. Evelyn loved to travel, and her favorite place to
visit was Las Vegas.
As a family, we saw GOD perform a metamorphosis in the Life of our
Loved One. She was truly NOT ASHAMED TO ENJOY LIFE AND
PRAISE GOD!!!
