Dumitru N. Vasu, age 66, of Middleburg Heights, Ohio, passed away on October 9, 2024. Born on October 26, 1957, in Arpașu de Jos, Romania, to Gheorghe (deceased) and Leonora (Bogdan) Vasu, Dumitru came to the United States in October of 1978 at the age of 20 in pursuit of the American dream. Driven by the desire to escape communist Romania and build a better life for himself and his future family, Dumitru worked tirelessly to create opportunities for his children to grow up in a land of freedom and prosperity. He worked for many years as a winder operator and machine setup specialist before retiring.
Dumitru was married for 43 years to his beloved wife, Paraschiva Vasu (née Sârbu). Together they raised two sons, Michael (married to Daisy) and Christopher (married to Jena). He loved being “bunicu” to his grandchildren — Abigail, Troy, and Blair.
“Mitica” or “Nick,” as most of his friends called him, was known for his infectious sense of humor and ability to put a smile on everyone’s face. His love of laughter and joy made him a friend to many, and he always made sure those around him felt good in his presence. He was loved by many and will be missed by all.
Visitation: Friday, October 11, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Corrigan-Craciun Funeral Home, 14768 Lorain Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44111. A Saracusta prayer service will be held at 7 PM.
Funeral Service: Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 9:00 AM at St. Mary Romanian Orthodox Cathedral, 3256 Warren Rd, Cleveland, OH 44111.
Interment: Woodvale Cemetery, 7535 Engle Rd, Middleburg Heights, OH 44130, immediately following the funeral.
Luncheon Reception: After the interment, at St. Mary Romanian Orthodox Cathedral’s Social Hall.
All services will be officiated by the Very Rev. Fr. Remus Grama.
