Marilyn Goodman Baskin

October 20, 1936 – March 14, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marilyn Goodman Baskin on March 14, 2024. Born to Dr. David H. Goodman and Della H. Goodman (Press) on October 20, 1936, Marilyn's life was a testament to her unwavering love for her family, her passion for education and the arts, and her commitment to her community.

Marilyn leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication. Her husband of 65 years, Sheldon E. Baskin of Moreland Hills, mourns her passing, along with her devoted children, Beth (Phillip) Mann of Solon, Eileen (Michael) Kohn of Aurora, Sharon (David) Lockman of Solon, and she is predeceased by her son Steven Michael Baskin. Her warmth and guidance will be deeply missed by her grandchildren, Michael Mann, Morgan Mann, Alex Kohn, Rebecca Lockman, Amanda Lockman, and Marissa Lockman. Marilyn is also survived by her sister, Susan (James) Kendis, and was a loving sister to the late Judith (Gerald) Fields (Harold) Blane.

A proud alumni of Miami University of Ohio, Marilyn graduated in 1958 with a Bachelor's Degree in Education and a Minor in Art. She shared her love for learning as an elementary school teacher, touching the lives of countless students with her kindness and wisdom.

Marilyn's passions extended beyond the classroom. She was a talented cook and artist, sharing these gifts with all who knew her. Her love of nature was evident in her collection of orchids and dedication to plant care. An avid genealogist, she made significant contributions to the Northeast Ohio Computer Aided Genealogy organization (NEOCAG) and Jewish Genealogy, tracing her family lineage with great care and involvement.

Her creative talents were further showcased through her volunteer work as an assistant illustrator and jewelry fabricator for her daughter's business. Marilyn also made her mark as a successful entrepreneur, owning the Cleveland Diet Workshop Franchise.

Marilyn's commitment to her faith and community was boundless. As a founding family member of Temple Emanu El, she played a significant role in the congregation's development, particularly in the interior committee work for the new building. She continued her love of education through the adult learning classes at least 2 days a week.

Marilyn Goodman Baskin's life was a beautiful tapestry of love, education, art, and community service. She will be remembered for her generous spirit, her nurturing presence, and her enduring love for her family and friends. May her memory be a blessing to all who knew her.

Services Monday March 18 at 11 a.m. at Temple Emanu El, 4545 Brainard Rd., Orange Village. Interment Hillcrest Memorial Park. Family will receive friends at Temple Emanu El, 4545 Brainard Rd., Pepper Pike after services until 4 p.m. and then at the Baskin residence 32850 Jackson Rd., Moreland Hills from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday and Wednesday 1-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Parking is available at 32700 Jackson Rd. Contributions are suggested to the Steven Michael Baskin, Gerald Fields & Dr. David Goodman Fine Arts Fund at Temple Emanu El.
